SHINE A LIGHT ACROSS THE MILES - our new E-twinning project
This is a project between 3 schools; the Primary School of Polichnitos, in Lesvos (Greece), the C.P. Lo Romero Primary School in Alicante (Spain) and our own St. Venera Primary School.
The project includes a variety of activities based on different learning strategies that engage all students with their individual needs and learning styles. The notions of SHINE and LIGHT are being examined from various aspects, the Sun as a symbol of new and innovative techniques and activities in our classrooms, and as means of alternative source of energy. Our classes form a "virtual community" dealing with aspects of every day life, traditions, rituals and most of all environmental awareness and challenges.
The activities have been designed in a way as to allow the students to be quite autonomous, to "build" new ideas and norms based on their existing knowledge and experiences. As a small "community" we aim to share responsibilities. Each partner school is undertaking an equal part of every activity, getting the students actively involved according to their skills and competences. Interaction is being encouraged throughout the project. The first part of this project involved Ice-breaking activities (which included introductory letters and general information about every respective country) and exchange of Christmas Cards and New Year’s crafts along with information about traditions related to this period of time. Next step is to focus on green schools and all activities are being centred towards having eco-friendly classrooms. The Greek school is already using central heating from thermal-springs, the Spanish class have just installed alternative ways of energy through solar panels while the Maltese school has been working on recycling. As a "virtual community" the students will learn to deal with environmental and other community problems. Green calendars have already been exchanged too during phase two of the project while Easter crafts will be swapped too later on during this term.
Assessment of the project is being planned to be carried out through self-assessment questionnaires and crafts to present the assessment results. The classroom teachers are facilitators of the project and will monitor and assess the process to its completion.
